Improving the quality of students is very important in supporting skills, in preparation for facing the need for skilled workers in the industrial environment. Knowledge that is up-to-date and widely applied in industry should indeed be taught in schools, so that schools will match the industry. This means that what is used in industry is also used in schools. With the linkage of this knowledge, it will have a considerable impact on students, namely sufficient knowledge for work in the industry. So that many graduates from vocational schools will be absorbed into industry. One example is in the field of machinery, namely the use of Computer Numerically Control (CNC) machines. The reality is, many schools do not yet have CNC machines for their students to practice. This is because:
- CNC machines are expensive, so not many vocational schools (SMK) have them.
- Students get CNC lessons only with uninteresting theory,
- There are schools that have CNC machines but the number is small, and not proportional to the number of practical students,
- Lack of competent teachers in the field of CNC machining,
- Expensive operational and maintenance costs for CNC machines,
- The low level of students’ understanding of CNC material is because they do not practice directly.
This is very unfortunate, because when students graduate, they will not have competency regarding CNC programming. With this condition of incompetent students, job opportunities in the CNC machining industry cannot be met. For this reason, it is necessary to solve several of the problems above which started from schools not having CNC machines. One alternative that will be given is to use a computer containing CNC software in the form of Mastercam.
Master Cam’s basic socialization and training activities were carried out directly for one day, taking place at SMK Negeri 53 West Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, with a team of 4 people, 2 lecturers 2 students. The socialization and training which was held at the computer laboratory was carried out on March 9 2023 starting from 09.00 – 12.30 WIB which was attended by 25 SMK students and 5 accompanying teachers from the Light Vehicles department, but the day before March 8 2023 the installation was carried out software to computers in the laboratory as many as 25 personal computers / PCs.
The activity begins with an introduction to the software by explaining the benefits and uses of software in the industrial world, followed by carrying out direct practicum on the software that has been installed under direct supervision by Nur Indah, ST., MT who is a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mercubuana University, this activity can be seen in figure 1.
